If you are like me, a professional networking geek, you often find that the one NIC on your laptop just don’t cut it? Sounds familiar? For a few months now I’ve been using the StarTech USB 3.0 NIC and it works just perfectly for me. I can use it directly on my laptop or even a few of them through an USB hub. Even mounting them directly (by USB) into a VMware Workstation VM works fine. Why would I USB them directly into a VM you say? Well, it could be to keep the host clean, but also to bypass any corporate policies on your company provided laptop which just don’t play nice with the needs for a networking geek. It even comes in white now.
MetaWatch Firmware 1.3 now available
Just when going to bed last night I got an email from MetaWatch with information that Firmware 1.3 was now finished and officially available. So first thing this morning I downloaded and updated my MetaWatch Strata with the new version. Upgrade process went on without any issues (first time for me) and the week to come will show what is really improved.
From the release notes:
- Microcontroller FLL fix
- Initialization changes to help stability
- Optimization of radio power level
- Optimization of flash memory writing for common options
- Return to Bluetooth Sniff mode faster
